My Favorite Things

I thought it would be fun to review and suggest some of "my favorite things".  Click on the pics to get more info and make them your favorite things too!

Brooks Pure Cadence -My favorite shoes.  Light, semi-minimal.  I have logged hundreds of miles in 4 different pairs of these...just amazing...LOVE THEM.  Make sure you go and get properly fitted and analyzed from a local specialty running store.  My local favorite, Tortoise and Hare, has a 5-Point Fit process that they go through to ensure the proper shoe type and fit for each individual.

Swiftwick Zero Vibe -Best socks ever.  Never a blister, never bunches, amazing breathability.  I have literally tried dozens of different socks and once trying these bought about a dozen of them.  Wifey loves them too!

Brooks Utopia 1/2 Zip -Most comfortable, perfect outer layer, keeps you warm, but not toasty.  Perfect for Arizona winters.  I use it as a warm-up type top pre workout and race.  Love the thumb holes too!

Accelerade -My go-to post workout recovery drink.  Yes, I know that chocolate milk gets all the glory (can't drink it), and beer is the trendy pick (not good first thing in morning), but I have found this to be the best all-around performance drink for me.  Before or during workouts it hits the spot.  May I suggest the fruit punch flavor...and stay away from lemon-lime at all costs!

Honey Stinger Organic Waffle -Amazing taste, amazing replenishment of nutrients, amazing ease of ingestion while working out.  I had tried energy gels and found them difficult to ingest.  You have to take them with copious amounts of water, usually resulting in bloating or cramping and it would mess with my breathing if I did not come to a stop or walk to ingest them.  These literally melt in your mouth.  I was shocked at how easy it was to eat them without missing a step.

Bonk Breaker Bars -Great pre-workout snack, easily digestible, and easy to carry in case you need something heavier during the workout.  I'm an early morning athlete and can't usually get up early enough to have a meal digest prior to working out and getting ready for the day, so these are perfect.  Gives me all the nutrients I need for a strong workout, without feeling full.  Get the PB&J...trust me.

Sony MP3 -I listen to music about 50% of the time when I workout.  I hated having wires and clips to contend with.  I found this sweet MP3 player last year and put it on my Christmas list.  They are wireless, waterproof, and relatively inexpensive.  Major bonus, charging them for 3 minutes gives you 60 minutes of music!!!  I can't count the number of times I would be ready to head out for a run or already be on the roads when my player ran out of juice...this is run-saving!

This is the newest supplement I have been taking since the surgery, suggested by my OS.  Apparently, when you have damaged cartilage hanging around, your body's immune system treats it as a foreign body and tries to break it down further, potentially causing more damage.  The thought behind taking this supplement is that it will prevent an autoimmune response to your own cartilage.
